About world health cultural imperialism, the pushing of patriarchy, 'tradition' (=misogyny), and iatrogenic disease: it's not about making anyone feel guilty about being conned by the medical establishment, it's about human rights. Dear LJ? Breastfeeding, still not a sexual act, did you get with the program?
Evidence based medicine, little, baby steps:

When It Comes to Breastfeeding, We Can’t Handle The Truth EtA: account suspended, that was fast. o.0 More epic 'how to suppress women's writing', wow. EtA a few days later: back online.
Somewhere along the line, someone told you that you couldn’t make milk, and you believed them because we’ve all grown up in a culture that tells women their bodies aren’t good enough for much of anything except being toys for men.
Over 35 years after the first boycott, Nestlé is still killing babies. And it's not Nestlé's fault that your KitKat contains, among the unlisted ingredients, child slave labour from Mali and Cote d'Ivoire:
Nestlé has repeatedly argued that it is just buying a product when it comes to cocoa and is not responsible for egregious labor rights violations involved in its production. Nestlé also consistently argues that its own code of conduct is merely “aspirational.” Sounds a lot like the catholic church. Digressing, but
about that catholic church, which also has a long history of not respecting children's genital integrity, especially if those children are in their 'care'.
The sheer concentration of known sex offenders in these isolated communities begins to look less like an accident than a plan.
That's god's plan, in the hands of 'innocent old men', for you.
It was Genital Integrity Awareness Week until last week, campaigning against the genital mutilation of all children, female, male, as well as and especially intersex. Adult attempts to control the sexuality of subjects who don't know what that is, is wrong. As with breast feeding however, many people cannot talk rationally about mgm, because that is what 'we' do and 'can't be wrong', while fgm is what 'those people' do and 'has a much higher likelihood of being wrong because we're not involved.'
Gendercide continues to take lives and cause suffering because 'culture' and 'tradition' will insist on cutting up children and women's genitals to control them. Healthy body parts are not options, and not superfluous.
It's not just sex-selective abortion that accounts for the amount of
missing girls and women, the scarring of radical FGM kills girls and women giving birth by the thousands.
FGM is illegal in many countries that would call themselves 'civilized', but fear not, they have ways to mutilate you anyway, and control your sexuality too. There are still doctors who perform episiotomy* routinely, although the procedure is as good as never necessary. It does however always cause scarring and has the alleged 'benefit' of making you 'virgin tight', which is why it used to be called a 'husband's stitch', as a present of one man, your doctor, to another, and let's not mention in polite company that it makes
intercourse painful, because that is what 'better' and 'tight' means for them, and because of the scarring, increases your chances of getting one more episiotomy, and a deeper one, with every succeeding birth. And bowel incontinence. Unnecessary Cesarians contribute to falling birthrates by making it dangerous to have more than two, at most three, children.
ICAN*
For the uninitiated: they cut your perineum, with a pair of scissors. No, rly. About an inch, or several centimeters. Because there already is a cut, it tears down a lot deeper when the baby's head crowns than any a natural tear would. It's not talked about, but it gives many women trouble for years and some for the rest of their lives. Hell no I didn't have one. If you have a doctor who's all for it back away slowly and find another one.Women and girls are more susceptible to hiv transmission, and mutilation pushers have had some success getting people to believe that circumcision prevents infection. These claims are contested and
wrong. A painful, large open wound, in a hospital, in a diaper is asking for all kinds of nasty infections. I've already ranted about the exporting of dangerous and meaningless surgery in a desperate bid to prove that it does anything, and protect the reputation and the wallets of those who commit it; about how that randomized trial by those same pushers disproved their own claims (women in the groups with circed partners were 50%
more likely than those in the control group to contract hiv from their partners) and was stopped early 'because of futility'. I wouldn't call spreading the virus to people who would have stood a good chance of not contracting it 'futile', I'd call it 'criminal negligence', but mmv. That mgm makes female partners more vulnerable is very basic science and has been known since at the latest 2003,
for these reasons. Of course this is
an issue that concerns women who have sex with men, and in particular those whose consent is not taken into consideration and those who are in no position to negotiate condom use.

A Dangerous Mistake in the HIV Battle (Pdf)
Circumcision gives men an excuse not to use condoms. The myth that mutilated genitals 'protect' from hiv infection put the blame on women again and causes ever more abuse.
Protect yourselves, and your children should you have any, because 'society', 'culture' and 'tradition' will not.
